Need to replace bulbs or get bulbs for your light fixture? We carry the major brand names in the aquarium lighting industry. We recommend changing your fluorescent bulbs ( power compact, T5, and normal output) every 6-8 months. We recommend changing your metal halide bulbs every 10-12 months. The bulbs tend to lose their intensity and par between these months. It becomes even more important to change your bulbs within these months when you have a reef aquarium. The bulb may still be lit during these times, but the spectrum has deteriorated into an area where you will start growing nuissance algae like red slime algae in your tank. A good idea would be to label or record the date the bulb was first installed in your light fixture.
